[J3y " Goal Post."] j
On Saturday next the curtain will be lowered on the 1910 season as far as country teams are concerned, but the match to be decided on that day is almost certain to prove the most interesting contested in these parts for the season. It is the annual fixture between the representatives of Vincent and Tuapeka, and will be played on the Cromwell ground, com mencing at 3 p.m sharp. The Tuapeka team will be altogether different to that which took part in " Country Week," and is claimed to be a much stronger combination, the players being representative of Roxburgh, Miller's flat, and Coal Creek. Since the inauguration of the fixture two years ago Vincent has had the best of the points, but the visitors have improved a great deal, which conten tion is substantiated by the fact that the Coal Creek team secured the medals at the Alexandra tournament. Likewise they have proved as fine a lot of sports as can be found playing Rugby at the present time. Everything considered it is safe to predict a record attendance on Saturday and an interesting and enjoyable match. The following team has hoon chosen to represent Vincentin Saturday's match against Tnapeka : ' Full-back—R Wrightson. Three-quarters—J. Varcoe, J. Dwyer, J. Lewis. Five-eighths.—ll. N'areou and J Richardson. Half-back—T. Armstrong. Forwards—T. Blackie, R. Thomas, T. Mackenzie, T. Trevathan, W. Foster, J. Davidson (capt.), W. Hall, and R. Crawford. Emergencies—Hicks, E. Gye and A. Crombie; forwards, C Davidson and J. Hancock. Referee. Mr D. Jolly. Any player unable to take part in the match must notify the selectors at once. Re the treatment of country playere at the hands of the O.R.F.U, during the recent " Country Week," " Drop kick" in the " Dunstan Times" has several outspoken remarks, and these cannot but be substantiated by anyone conversant with the position. The general opinion was that the teams were ignored, and the fact that country players do not appear to be wanted is more evident than ever. When the players had to practically pay their own expenses, the O.R F.(J, inigbt j-istly have done a little to make the visit enjoyable more especi ally when the would have been only a trifle.
