COMMERCIAL.

Messrs Stronach, Morris, & Co., Ltd., report (or week ended sth March as follows;

Fat Sheep :—There was a large yarding of over 3000 sheep, comprised mostly of medium weight ewes and watb rs with a lew pens of prime sheep. Prices for prime wethers were a shade easier .than at last sale, while ewes showed a decline of from 2s to 2s 2d. Store sheep were slightly firmer owing to the presence ef a large number of graziers. Best wethers brought from 15s to 18s, extra to 22s l)d, medium to good 14s to 15s, best ewes 13s to 15s, extra to 17s tid, medium to good 11s to 12s (3d. Fat Lambs :—There were, 1175 penned of which a very small proportion were prime ; The majority being forward stores. Best lambs sold much on a par with last week’s rates and stores sold at about Is per head in advance of last week’s values.

Best lambs brought 15s (Id to Ills Gd, extra to 17s 9d, medium to good 14s to 15s, stores 11s (id to 14s.

Fat Cattle : —Thera were 262 yarded consisting of medium weight bullocks and cows. Owing to the large number forward prices showed a decline of from 10s to 15s per head. Quotations : Prime bullocks £d to £lO, extra to £ll, medium £7 to to £S 15, light £5 to £6 10, best cows and heifers £b to £l, medium to good £4 to £5 10, light and inferior £2 10s to £'6 15s. Pigs:—There was a large yarding, and prices for suckers and slips were much on a par with last week’s rates, but towards tha end of tha sale baconers and porkers were not selling well and showed a decline of from 2s to 5s per head. Suckers brought from 11s to 13s (id, stores 16s to 20s, porkers 28s to 355, light baconers B7s to 425, and heavy baconers 48s to 555, choppers to G4s.

Kabbitskius :—The next sale will beheld on the 9th inst.

Sheepskins :—We held our usual fortnightly sale on the 3rd inst. when we offered a medium catalogue. Bidding was fairly brisk for lambskins and liner wool skins and these sold at fully up to rates ruling last sale, For coarser skins however there was very little competition and these showed a decline of from to Id per lb. Best halfbred 7d to 7£d, medium to good 5Jd to inferior 4d to od, best cross-bred to Gld, medium to good 4d to ssd, best lambskins s,}d to 6d, medium to good 5d to best pelts to 4.td, light 3d to Broken skins and poor stuff was hard of sale.

Hides The next sale will be held on Thursday and Friday sth and (sth inats, Tallow dTat; —Thera is no change to report in the tallow and fat market as prices are just the same as at last report. There is not very much coming forward, and there is good enquiry for the best kinds. Best tallow brings from 22s to 24s per cwt (casks), medium ta good 18s to 21s, inferior 14s to 16s, best rough fat 16a to 19s, medium to good 12s to 14s. Oats; —There is good enquiry for both shipping and milling varieties at prices fully equal to late quotations. Duns and lines suitable for seed have good enquiry, but there arc not many offering. Quotations: Prime milling 2s 3r)d to 2s Id, good to best 2s 24d to 2s 3d, inferior to medium 2s to 2s 2d per bushel (sacks extra.) Wheat; —Owing to the fall in the London market prices at the beginning of the week showed a decline, but with more satisfactory cables coining to hand, values rose again slightly. Fowl wheat is offering more freely, and values have eased somewhat. Quotations ; Prime milling 4s to -Is SA, medium to pood 4s 3d to Is 4d, whole fowl wheat 4s 2d to 4s 4d per bushel (sacks extra.) Chaff There is good enquiry for prime oaten sheaf as the market lias been poorly supplied during the past week, and all lines offering have been sold at increased rates. Medium and inferior lots are very bard to sell. Prime oaten sheaf to £3 15s, good to beat feed £3 os to £3 10s, inferior to medium £‘3 to £3 os per tou (bags extra). Potatoes :—The market has been fairly wall supplied during the week, and all freshly dug lots are readily taken up at about last week’s prices. Quotations : Best lots £5 10s to £5 15s, medium to good £5 to £5 7s Gd, stale and inferior £1 to £\ 15s per ton (sacks in.)

Pressed Straw Quotations : Oaten £2 5s to £2 7s Gd, wheaten £2 2s Gd to £2 5s per
