r CoXT RIBUTED.] Tlie Anniversary Social of the above Church was held on Wednesday evening, when the Church was well filled, the seating accommodation being taxed to the utmost. The occasion was availed of to extend to the Rev. Mr Reader a welcome to the district, this being done on behalf of the members and adherents of the Church by Mr S, Stephens, who acted as chairman during the early part of the proceedings, his place eventually being taken by Mr Reader. The Rev. Mr McLeod spoke on behalf of the Presbyterian Church members, and welcomed Mr Reader to Cromwell, saying that he hoped they would work harmoniously together in all that tended to the advancement of the spiritual work of the district. Mr Reader briefly and suitably replied, thanking one and all for the kindly words of welcome. The following programme Avas gone through, all the items being given in such a style as left little to be desired ; —Anthem (“Jerusalem”) the Choir ; violin solo (“ List to the Convent Bells ”) Mr Barron; solo (“ My Soul to Heaven, My Heart to Thee”) Mrs Betts; solo (“The Deathless Army ”) Mr G. Springer ; solo (“Queen of Angels”) Mrs Richards ; recitation, Mr Abel ; solo (“ Gates of the West”) Mr Reader; duet (“ Friendship ”) Misses Thomas and Maud Thomas; euphonium solo, Mr George Wishart; solo (“The Toilers ”) Mr S. Stephens; violin solo (“ The Millwheel ”) Mr Barron. Refreshments Avere handed round, and these Avere done full justice to. Social chat Avas indulged in for some time, after which the gathering dispersed. Mrs John Stephens acted as accompanist to all the performers Avith the exception of Mi - Geo. Wishart’s item (his accompaniment being played by Miss Richards) and Mrs Lett’s solo (Miss Maud Betts accompanying this item).
