Constable Stopcm was found on the roadside in an insensible condition, and evidently delirious, for he muttered incessantly ; “A ate one, too !” “lie’s been poisoned, evidently,’’ said the doctor, as he listened to the mumbling sentence which the constable uttered, “I’ll try the stomachpump on him.” This instrument of torture brought the dazed constable to his senses, and he kicked the pump to the other end of the room, and cried : “What do you mean by this ?” “I thought you were poisoned,” explained the doctor. “You kept on saying, ‘A ate one, too.’ ” “Y'er a lot of blooming idiots,” grunted the constable, wrathfully. “That’s the registered number of the car wot knocked me down. ”
