Messrs Stronach, Morris and Co. report for the week ending 19th April, as follows : Fat Cattle. —194 yarded, which number proved too many for requirements. The bulk of-the entry consisted «f cows and inferior heifers and steers. Fat Sheep.—l 766 penned, and prices were quite up to last week's. Best wethers 21s 6d to 25s 6d, lighter sheep 19s 6A to 20s, best ewes 16s to 18s, medium 8s to 12s 6d. Fat Lambs.—s6o penned, and prices were as follows: Best 15s 6d to 17s 6d, other lis to 14s. Pigs.—ls7 forward, and this being a small yarding prices ware somewhat firmer. Rabbitskins, Sheepskins, and Hides.— No sales since last report. Tallow and Fat.—No change to repert, all coming forward being readily disposed of. Oats.—There is a good demand for prime milling and feed lines, and quotations are as follows : Prime milling Is lOd to Is lid, good to best feed Is 9-J-d to Is lOd, inferior and medium Is 8d to Is 9d per bushel. Wheat.—Prime wheat, especially Tuscan, is in good demand, and the following are present quotations : —Prime milling 3s 2d to 3s 3Jd, whole fowl wheat 2s lid to 3s, broken and damaged, do, 2s 8d to 2s 1 Od per bushel. Potatoes. —Stocks at present are fairly plentiful, but prices are well maintained. Prime Derwents and white sorts £9 10s to £lO, others £8 to £9 per ton. Chaff. —The market is over-supplied with this season's chaff, and to off c!. sales, a reduction on late values has to be taken. Best oaten sheaf £3 7s 6d to £3 10s, medium to good £3 to £3 3s, inferior £2 5s to £2 15s per ton.
Mr A. C. Murray reports a successful sale of stock at Lauder on Wednesday last, being the first sale since the new yards have been erected. The yards, which cover about 3 acres, are finished in excellent style, and have every convenience for the drafting and yarding of stock. They reflect great credit on their designer, Mr John Wilson, President of the Sale Yards Syndicate. Mr Murray sold as follows :—For Mr J. Wilson : Leceister rams, 4gs. to 3 l-Bgs; Mr J. Alexander: Leicester Rams, 6-tooth, at 30s; Corredale, do., broken-mouth at 10s; Mr J. Charles: 75 ewes, 3s 9d; Mr A. Brown: grey mare, £2O; G. A. Francis, pony, £lO 10s; Mr H. Mee: 58 two, four, and six-tooth ewes, lis 2d, 17 at 5s 3d, 64 fat ewes, 8s 6d; Mr J. Hamilton (privately): Leicester rams at satisfactory prices. In conjunction with Waters, Ritchie, and Co., of Dunedin : For Mr H. Mee, 223 fat lambs, 13s lid, 120 ewes, 5s 3d ; 180 fat wethers, 16s lid. In conjunction with Beck, Ramsay and Co.: Leicester rams at 21s 6d, wethers Js Bd, merino ewes 4s Id, 1 draught mare £3O. The demand for horses and cattlo, especially cattle, was not up to expectations, but nearly all the sheep yarded found new owners. Regular sales will be held in future. For bronchial coughs and celds, Woods' Great Peppermint Cure, 1/6 and 2/6 per bottle.
