Clyde Sports Club.

ANNUAL SPORTS. [Special Reporter.] The above were favored with the very best of weather for their annual gathering, the day being bright and clear; there being fortunately very little wind. Shortly before 12 o'clock the people started for the ground, and before the afternoon was far advanced there were fully 700 in attendance. The first event of the day started punctually up to time, and the other events were put steadily on, a lengthy programme being finished shortly after 5. In the running events a good class of competitors came forward, and the events were all keenly contested. J. F. Kane, of Invercargill, was the most successful of the sprinters, winning the Sheffield Handicap, and also getting a dead heat with L. Mcßride, Franktown, in the 100 Yards Handicap. The 75 Yards proved one of the most popular items on the programme, both amongst the spectators and the competitors, 16 of whom went to the post. D. J. Wheeler proved the winner. In the cycling events, F. Collings, of Hawea, showed yuud for.:;, winning three out of the four open events. We shall hear more from this young rider in the near future. The President's Handicap Bike Race fell to S. Symonds, of Alexandra, after a well-contested race, in which B. Collings seemed to have a splendid chance until an accident to his machine put him out. The introduction of Bagpipe Music and Highland Dancing proved, as it did in Cromwell, popular with a large number of those4n attendance. Several of the champion pipers and dancers of the Colony were competitors. During the afternoon little Fanny Perriam, of Cromwell, gave an exhibition of Highland dancing, and was warmly received by the onlookers. The High Jump was won by Shannahan (sft. 7in.), Challis (sft. 6in.) being second, both gave a great exhibition. Special provisions were made for the accommodation of the visitors, and the new refreshment booth erected by the Club proved a decided acquisition. The booth, fruit stall, and refreshment room seemed to be doing good business. The Alexandra Brass Band enlivened the proceedings with sweet music. The takings at the gate amounted to £2B 15s, which is only a few shillings short of the record one of 1904. The entertainment in the evening was well attended, over £26 being taken at the concert and dance. The Secretary and the working committee are to be congratulated on the manner in which they worked to make the outing the succesß whioh it undoubtedly was.
