MY BIG BROTHER.

I'm "Curlywig," you know ; I'm over six— Saucy, my" sisters say, and full of tricks. They cali Tue : 'horrid boy" and "little wretch" —1 scarcely ever please 'em. They would have me fit still and twiddle my thumbs. Dike grandfather does whenever he conies, But it's jollier fun to tease 'em. Uur Ben's the one ! He's old, you know—sixteen — And clever. You would say so if you'd seen The splendid things he does. No matter what 1 want, our Ben will do it ; Sharpen my pencils, oh, such lovely points ! He'll make me cardboard men that move their joints, Or else a railway train with engine to it. He brings me tarts —I'm fond o." L»»ts 1 am— Not skinny, dried-up things, but full of jam ; He knows the proper shop, does Ben, I think, to buy 'em. Sometimes he brings me acid drops, And heaps of other lollipops, And says, "Here, duly, try 'em !" He lent me his new knife the other day. So I began to cut and hack away, As you guess. I tried to make a vessel, but I wasn't able ; So I cut my name on the edge of my slate. A "B" for Ben on the garden gate, And a jolly great noteh in the table ! He's bought me a beautiful colour box. With a lid and hinges, one that locks Not one of your twopenny sliding things, that's only fit for a "babby." I've painted an old woman blue, a little dog yellow ; J And Ben laughed, and called me a comical fellow, When I showed him a green and white tabby. Once he took me to see the pantomime— TYont seat in the boxes —wasn't it prime ? He stuffed my pockets with apples and nuts, and one thing or another. Oh, I laughed * till I ached at the tricks of the clown, But I almost cried when the curtain went down And I had to go home with my brother !
