Upper Clutha Railway and Progressive League.
The monthly meeting of the Hawea branch of the above League whs held in the Scheolhouse, Hawea Flat, on Saturday afternoon, March 24th, the Chairman (Mr J. Kane) presiding. There was a fairly good attendance of members.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, on the motion of Mr Hansen, and seconded by Mr Ceilings. CORRESPONDED CE. From the Secretary, Pembroke League, suggesting that a conference of the various Leagues should be held in Cromwell about the 30th inst; and from the Secretary, Cromwell League, advising that the Conference would be held in Cromwell on Friday evening, the 30th inst. The Chairman and Mr A. Hansen were agreeable to attend the Conference if it was held on Thursday instead of Friday. Proposed by Mr Allison, and seconded by Mr Smith, That the Cromwell and Pembroke Leagues be notified that Messrs J. Kane and A. Hansen would represent the Hawea League, providing the Conference was held on Thursday evening, 29th inst Carried.
From the Scretary, Cromwell League, stating that the heading of the petition had been altered. — Received.
From J. A. McPherson, M.H.R., atfttimg that he had approached the Premier, whom he found sympathetic, and believed that with the united effort* of all the residents between Clyde and Hawea it could be reasonably hoped the extension of the line would be continued.
Proposed by Mr F. Collings, and •eeonded by Mr David McLennan, That the letter be received, and that Mr McPherson be thanked for his communication. —Carried. Resolved that Mr Sheehy be asked to furnish reports with reference to the progress of the line. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chair.
