(From a Comsponden'.) Weather.—Frosty, and has caused one or two dredges to stop. Matrimony.—Mrs Grundy reports thathe matrimonial market is brisk, no less than three engagements have been announced this last week, and before the month is out she expects to report the lucky number of seven. Railway Construction.--The chief camp is now located at Alexandra, and shots from the rock cuttings can now be heard hourly in our town, and under Mr Lewis and his efficient staff, the permanent way is being speedily pushed on. Political.- You report parliamentary matters in horsey phraseology, so my tip is Grey Horse, aged (Jas. Bennett), as an easy win for the Parliamentary Slakes of £3OO, to be run in next November. Cheap Meat.—One of your butchers, Mr R. Olds, is now runniug a cheap meat cart into Alexandra. Ainusemenis. —Golf and hockey are now very popular games here.
