HOW TIM WAS PUZZLED.
Wedding presents are frequently distinguished for their uselessness, and giftmaking at any time is always attended with some danger ; but there is a contractor in Yorkshire who realises that the most generous intentions may turn out disastrously. This is how it came about.
1 A faithful Irish employe announced : his desire to take a fortnight’s holij day in order the visit his brother in Dublin. He had worked so well and steadily that his employer not only granted his request but made him a present of a large portmanteau. 'The. night before Tim was to leave he received the gift, accompanied by a : few appreciative words. Tim stared at the portmanteau fur a few mo- : meats, and then asked :
“ Pliwat am Oi to do with thot? “ Why, put yarn - clothes in it when you go away, of course,” answered the contractor.
“ Put me clothes in it, is it ? said Tim. ‘‘An’ phawt will Oi •wear if oi put me clothes in it ?
