A Woman in Khaki.
At Marylebone Police Court, London, a young married woman named Alice Smith, aged 35, of 10 Bridge street, Kilburo, was charged before Mr Plowden with being drunk and orderly at Highroad, Kilburn, and also with wearing military uniform in a manner likely to bring it into contempt. Police-constable Howard, 321 S, said about a quarter to one the previous afternoon his atteniion was drawn to the prisoner, who was drunk and cres ating a disturbance She was dressed in khaki uniform. Mr Plowden ; What Jo you mean? Police-constable Howard : She was wearing a khaki coat, khaki breeches, khaki putties and khaki boots. (Laughter.) Mr C.-ow (the clerk) : Like a map. Police-constable Howard? Yes, sir. Mr Plowden : Any medals : (Laughter.) Police-constable Howard * No, sir. At the station she said, ‘ « done it in a lark.’ Prisoner : It wa all for fun. But 1 h*d my own clothes on underneath, Mr Plowden: ido not suppose ycu are aware, but it is an offence in this country to bring His Majesty’s uniform into contempt in this way. You have no idea how sacred the uniform is. However* I shall put it down to a drunken frolic, and you will be fined ss. Prisoner (with a deep sigh) : Oh thank you. (Great laughter).
