CONCERT AT BANNOCKBURN.
[Contributed.] A concert and dance was held hero on Friday, which was got up by the members of the Tennis Ciub, the proceeds to go to the school fund. The programme was opened by Mr J. M'George singing "The Sleeping Camp." A duet by Mesdames Stephenson and Richards, "In the dusk of the twilight." Mr \V. D. Jolly sang "Anchored;" Mrs Betts, "At the ferry ;" Mr Warburton, recitation; Mrs Stephenson, "She wore a wreath of roses ;" Miss Thomas, "The Holy City ;" Mr J. M'George, "When you and I were young Maggie." Bart ll.—Mrs Belts, " Bring me back the one 1 love ;" Mr dolly, " King's Own ;" duet, Miss Parsons and Mr J. M'George, " Flow on thou shining river ;" Mrs Stephenson, " Ye banks and braes ;" Mrs Richards, " By the waters ;" Mr D. Stewart, sailor's hornpipe ; Mr Warburton, recitation. The above was one of the best and most enjoyable performances that has been before the public for some time. It would bo hard to pick out one item to surpass another, as one and all of the performers were at their best. Mrs Stephenson and Mi*9 Truman were accompanists during the evening. Mr Fleming, president of the club, thanked the audience for their patronage, and also the performers who kindly came from Cromwell. Jn fact the programme, except two or three items, was made up by Cromwell friends. After the concert, the hall was cleared for dancing, which was kept going till about two o'clock. The music was supplied by Miss Truman. The takings amounted t > a little over £4 10s. After expenses, the school committee will benefit by about los ; not a laruo amount certainly. Some of the good folks here got it into their heads that the tennis club were not so philanthropic as they made themselves out to be, and that they would benefit somehow by the proceeds, therefore they did not attend the concert. I can assuro such unbelievers that they are very far our. The club has had the use of the school ground since the club was formed, and i:i return intended getting up a concert in aid of the schools funds. The parents and others who " set " the concert did not harm the club, but the funds of their school.
