The Rev. L. M. Isitt in England,
: ‘ -.vA -, ~ • T . i Letters from the .Kev.r L. M. Isitt state that he has had a most cordial reception in England. At the meeting of the executive and friends of the London auxiliary of the Alliance a resolution was passed conveying, through him, to the temperance reformers of New Zealand their “ heqrty congratulations upon the success that has attended the agitation in fayor of prohibition by. the votes of local communities in the rising and energetic .colony.” Mr Isitt, was, present aj. a meeting in the Albert : Hall, where he met Sir Wilfred Lawson;» He writes ; <• By far the happiest bit of the evening, however, was a spectacular one. Ushered in by the working sister of one particular court,a number of ragged, unwashed, uukempt children of all ages and sizes, made their way into the glare of the hall, and were musteredj on the platform, where ,an electric light streamed full upon them, throwing the pathos of their rags and wretchedness .into , strong relief. Standing there, peering about as though in wonder as to what all this fuss might really y mean, and led by the good sister, tliey sang simply, almost roughly, ‘' There is a shadow, ,pu the Home.” And thpn, away in the distance, was heard jthe answering chorus of trained voices, and streaming into the main entrance of the hall cayae a host of children clothed iu white, and bearing aloft a long coil of white ribbpn. Marching up to the central aisle, tpey separated into two fines, and slowly surrounded the ragged group, singing the while a rescue song. The effect upon the audience was extraordinary, i saw man after man with tears streaming down his face.”
