EQUALITY OF THE SEXES DEMANDED.
The Gisborn'e Women's Political Association have resolved —" Thar, steps ba taken in conjunction with kindred associations in New- Zealand, to petition Parliament in favor of legislation being passed upon the following subjects, and to urge Ministers to endeavor to get passed such legislation : —(l)To remove all disabilities which at present hinder women sitting as m- mbers in either branch of the Legislature or from being elected or appointed to any public office or position which men may hold, and with regard to all powers, rights, duties, and privileges to dec'are absolute equality to be the law of the land for both men and women ; (2) to readjust or re-cast the marriage I .ws of t\v>. colony u,jon the principle of complete equality and the economic independence of men and women ; (3) to alter the law of divorce only in us far as to put the bus and and wife on precisely the. same footing as to a dissolution of the marriage tie.
