Monday Evening. A coroner's inquiry into the death of Geo. Payne, a ganger on the railway, has resulted in a verdict of " Found Drowned." Deceased was known to take fits, and it is surmised that he fell into the Waihola lake when in one of these. The remains of Mr John Sheehan were placed on board the Hinemoa at Napier, for conveyance to Auckland. The procession which followed was a very large one. A Wellington telegram says there is great dissatisfaction among the Legislative Councillors at the recent additions to their numbers, and there is some talk of a motion censuring Ministers. There is some annoyance felt by the Government at Sir George Grey's action in proposing to send a message to her Majesty regarding offers of assistance by the Colonists, as it has to some extent forestalled their own proposals. The Wellington defence works were inspected on Saturday by the Governor and Members of Parliament. Mr Searle, late editor of the N. Z. Timet, and at one time of the Southland Times, was seized with paralysis at Wellington while playing chess. One whole side is completely paralyizod.
