Got by Towton —dam Fair Puritan, by Oliver Cromwell out of Coronaria (imported), by Sweetmeat out of Jessica, by Launcelot, own brother to Touchstone. Towton (imported), by Melbourne—dam Cinizelli, by Touchstone ; Oliver Cromwell, by Potentate, out of Woodstock, by Theorene (imported), out of a mare imported to New South Wales from England. Potentate, by Sir Hercules (sire of the Barb), out of Princess, by Gratis (imported). Marchioness (own sister to Towton) won the Oaks in 1865. Marchioness has bred in Victoria—Rose of Denmark, Fishhook, Angler (sire of Robinson Crusoe, winner of the Derby). The Peer, full brother to Towton, is sire of Manuka, Peeress and several other noted horses. The Marquis, a son of Cinizelli, by Stockwell, won the Two Thousand Guineas in 1862, ran second for the Derby, for which he was first favorite, and won the St- Leger.
