[from our OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ' —-♦ DUNEDIN. Monday, 7.36 p.m. The Arawata arrived at the Bluff yesterday, the Simonsen opera company being among her passengers. Blondin arrived from Wellington yesterday by the Hawea. Millar, F.S.A., formerly of Dunedin, has been committed for trial on the charge preferred against him of obtaining money under false pretences from the Nelson Provincial Government. Mr Bright delivered his second lecture in the Circus tent last night to an audience of about 2500 persons. Mr F. Efumphries, sub-editor of the Daily Times, was presented on Saturday with a testimonial from the employes in that office, on the occasion of his leaving to assume the directorship of the new evening paper at Oamaru. SUBMARINE CABLE MESSAGES. (Router's Speciabto Oiago Guardian.) , Additional News of the Ship Strathmore.—49 Souls Saved. Galle, March 3. The Strathmore was wrecked on the Twelve Apostles Rock, Crozet Islands, on the night of June 30. Of 88 souls 54 were landed, and the remainder, including Miss Henderson, were lost. Five died on shore from exposure, including Mr Henderson. Those,saved subsisted with difficulty for seven months, nothing having been saved from the vessel, and all the boats having been lost. They were saved by the Young Phoenix, a whaler, which transferred half of them to the Sierra Morena, and these were landed at Galle on February 24. The following are the names of those who were transferred to the Morena :—First class —Fred. Bentley, Percy Joslen ; Third class —Rood, Ward, Ward, Standing, Wilson, Wright, and eight of the crew. The Young Phoenix proceeded to the Mauritius. First class passengers—Mr and Mrs Wordsworth, Alfred Walker, flylton Keith; and twenty of the crew.
