The Evening Star of Wednesday reports the following -dastardly act; —What m-iy without cloubfc be characterised as a villaiuous attempt'to injure Mr. H. Yeend's horses King Phib'p and Rory O'More, engaged in the approaching Dunedin Cup, was' discovered this morning and j happily frustrated. Mr Yoeud'a stable is on the swamp road, and the gite through which he takes his horses on to the training ground is the only one, at present used bv the trainers. .The ditch hero is crossed bv a small bridge formed of open rails, each about four inches wide and two inches thick, and there'Ve capable of supporting a very heavy weight. This morning Mr Yeend was, as usual, taking the two Cup horses out to exercise, and wis fortunately not ridirig eithor, but walking in front of them, for on stepping on to the bridge one of the rails snapped in two, and,he was thrown violently down, one leg of course going through the bridge. On inspecting the broken rail, ib was found to have been carefully chiselled almost entirely through, so that a horse in crossing tho bridge would to a certainty have broken One of its.legs. ' .
