DRYBREAD RACES.

These annual races took place on Friday and Saturday, 28th and 29th ult., and were attended with much success. The attendance on both days was very numerous, all the surrounding districts being well represented. The weather also was delightful, which of course contributed largely to the pleasure of the gathering. For each event £ood fields contested, and the steeds ran on their merits. The excellent manner in which the arrangements were carried out gave ample evidence that the Stewards understood their duties. We give the result of the two days' sport : Maiden Plate. Keenan's Freestone, 3 yrs ... I Bucknell's Foam, aged 2 Two others ran. Matakanui Handicap. Keenan's Jack the Flat, 9st 71b 1 O'Callaghan's Little Dick, Oat 21b 2 Fraser's Clyde, 9st 3 Harrington's Charley and Haliey's Miss King also ran. Handicap Trotting Hack. This was won by Bucknell's Gipsy, with 300 yards start. Taylor's Tapioca, at scratch, was fourth. New Town Handicap. Fraser's Clyde, 9st 1 Little Dick, 9st 2lb 2 Manx Boy, lOst 3 There was a field of nine horses for this event. The Hurry Scurry, for which eight started, was won by Clyde. SECOND DAY. Stewards' Purse., Brown's Taffy (4yrs), Mellor's Tommy, Mellor's Dagworth, and Harrington's Charley ran, the. first-named proving the winner. Midsummer Handicap. •Tack the Flat, 9st 101 b 1 Clyde, 9st 21b 2 Little Dick, Bst 121 b 3 Foam, Taffy, and Freestone also ran. Selling Stakes. Taffy,-9st 1 Charley, Oat 2 Free Handicap. Clyde, 9at 71b 1 Manx Boy, lOst 2 A Hospital Race was won by Scott's Jack. The. Consolation was won by Miss Grant, beating two others.
