SCHOOLS BREAK-UP.

WAIWEBA. The Waiwera School break-up took place last Friday, there 'being present a large and representative gathering of parents and friends.

The Chairman (Rev. Mr Dow) in his opening remarks referred to the good work of the school, and congratulated the headmaster (Mr C. M'cKinnon) on, the excellent results achieved by the Standard Vd pupils, all of whom, gained proficiency certificates. 'Mr Malcolm, M.P., congratulated the school on the results Obtained. Dt gave him great pleasure to 'be with them all again and to take part in the school 'break-up. He wished the young people a joyous holiday, for he felt sure they all deserved it, and would come back to school again fit for another year's work with renewed energy. * Major Wai'te also spoke a few words of encouragement to the children. IMr 'McKinnon replied on behalf of the staff, and fhan'ked the parents and others for their generous response foT prizes. To Major Waite and Mr W. Sinclair ho tendered the 'thanks of the school for special prizes 'towards the garden 'competitions. To the ladies, of the district 'too, who had so generously donated for sewing, he expressed thanks aDd appreciation. Special sewing prizes were donated toy Mcsdames Wright, Dunnett, McKinnon, Edwards and Waite and Miss Lily Edwards. The addresses were interspersed with musical items from the children.

Mr Mak'olin. presented the prizes and congratulated each child as he or she came forward to receive the prize. Thereafter an adjournment was made to the playground, where afternoon tea was served, and the remainder of the afternoon spent in games, races, etc., under the direction of Messrs J. Fyfe and 'L?.I. Edwards.
