GERMAN FOOD PROBLEM. FAILURE TO SOLVE IT. AMSTERDAM, May 11. Herr von Batocki (Food Director), speakingin the Reichstag, said he was convinced that the food supplies would last until the harvest but the Government must ensure careful distribution and proper cultivation of the soil. GERMAN PAPERS MAY STOP. AMSTERDAM, May 11. I The whole of the Berlin press has telegraphed to Herr von BethmannHollweg (Chancellor) stating that owing to the shortage of paper and coal it may be impossible to publish newspapers, beginning next week. They demand an remedy and point out the political eon sequences of a stoppage of the newspapers. The 'Daily Express' (London) states that an acute paper crisis is imminent. Imports are diminishing and directly there will be none. Newspaper is at J-Jd per lb. Many paper mills are closing down. Shortly English newspapers will have to further reduce their size.
