SHIPBUILDING IN JAPAN.
In view of the general trend of the situation in the shipping tirade, and particularly of the stress felt anions shipbuilders on account of the snortage of materials, am account in the 'Japan Times' illustrating the activity at present prevailing in shipbuilding in Japan, is interesting. 'The facte, the paper states, were given out by the head of the shipping section in the Department of Communications. At the Mitsu; Bislu Dockyard and Engine' Works, Nagasaki, the Tokiwa Mara, 7300 tons, Mas launched: on January 9. She is now nearly ready for sea, but cannot be delivered 1 to the owner solely because part of her engines has not arrived 1 from abroad. On March 8 a sister ship, the Tsuraga Maru, was launched from the same yard, she being followed by another of the same class in May. During the coming fiscal year the yard- intends building two lxiats of 7300 tons each, and 1 two more of 5500 tons. At Osaka, the Osaka Iron Works has already launched four of. 14 new vessels of 3200 tons each already ordered, ptisbing on the work with a view to comlnleting the remainder during the coming fiscal year. At present three boats are under construction! at the Inmoshima plant and fiv 6 at the Osaka, yard. At another yard there are four vessels of 7300 tons under construction and in addiition two of 4.400 tons. The other yards are, the article states, working at high pressure.
