BROTHERLY LOVE DEPRECATED
AMAZING GERMAN ORDER. Under the heading "Imprinting Sentiments of Hatred in. German Children," the 'Arbeiter Zeitung', of Vienna, states that an order has been issued to schoolchildren by the Government of the district of Frankfort-on-Odor in the following terms, which we take from the 'Pall Mall Gazette': Lately the teachers in the schoo's have been instilling into the minds of the pupils tlie idea of brotherly and international love, from the point of view of culture, and have been working against all thoughts of hatred of other nations. This feeling of common brotherhood, which has sprung from a love of international peace, must not be indulged in. On the contrary, one of the first duties of teachers is to see that the dreadful experiences of the recent past and of the present should be untamed ineffaceably in the minds of the rising generation. Before all things must the conviction be generally rooted in our people that Germany will only gain peace find assurance through her forces on land, and on sea, and that all brotherly seutiments and efforts at reconciliation with other nations in an intellectual form muse" be abstained from. Also, the children must he. taught that the events of this war- are not only to strengthen the Empire, but also •love for their Emperior and King and the Hohenzollern House. The daily prayers now said by the pupils for our rulers must bo directed towards fostering such loyal affection both now and after the war. AH attempts to excuse or lighten the shameful acts that the enemies of Germany have committed all over the world; will render teachers liable to punishment.
