FADS AND RELIGIONS.
ARK THEY OCCUPATIONS?
'Hiere are plenty of people who make their religion their business, but whether the naming of a person's religion is a description of his occupation i.s a question upon which there appears to be a difference of opinion. In the Magistrate's Court at Christchurch Air H. W". Bishop, S.M., questioned the propriety of describing a man's occupation as that of a Spiritualist.
'T do not think,'' he said, "you should describe the man as a Spiritualist. Spiritualism is not evidence of employment. A Spiritualist is a man, I take it, who has fads of a religious kind. It is not a description of a man's calling."
Mr Thomas; That is what this man is doing, Mr Bishop: Spiritualism? Mr Thomas: He is walking round teaching Spiritualism. Mr Bishop: I have not heard of Spiritualism as a calling for a man. Mr Thomas: You might call it Spiritualistic teaching. Mr Bishop : Ido not know much about it and I do not want to know. It strikes nic Spiritualism is not a calling in law.
Mr J. C. Cunningham : You might, as well call any man's religion his description.
Mr Bishop: I do not think Spiritual ism is a religion.
