THE BOY SCOUTS.

(By Scoutmaster.)

The Balclutha troop assembled in St. Mark's Hall last Wednesday evening at 7 o'clock, 48 members being present. The evening's meeting was principally devoted to concert work, comprising bridge building, signalling, lirst aid and open order drill. Tickets for the demonstration to be held on Empire night are going off fairly well, and it is hoped that the people of Balclutha will make every endeavour to be present at this function, when an exhibition of the valuable work taught the lads will be given.

It. was published in last week's column that two teams had been examined in signalling in the competition for the 'Bristol Pianoforte Company's Dominion signalling shield. Word has since been received from the Dominion Chief Scout (Colonel Cossgrove) to the effect that the Balclutha No. 2 team had been successful in winning this coveted trophy. The followiug boys will each receive a special badge, and will be known as the champion signalling team of the Dominion for one year:—Sergeant B. O'ilara, Leader A. Dowall, Leader W. Blackie, Leader D. Lattimore, Scout I. Malcolm and Scout Dixon. The supervisors expressed themselves as being highly pleased with the way in which the boys did their signalling.

The Clinton troop assembled under Scoutmaster Garden on Tuesday evening (May 2). During the evening the following work was done: First aid, semaphore signalling, physical exercises ami a revision of the scout law. The attendance was small, but keen interest was shown in the work.
