PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given that the Balclutha Borough Council, at a Meeting to be held in the Borough Council Chambers, Clyde street, Balclutha, on FRIDAY, tho 31st day of •July, 1914, at 7.30 p.m., intends to make and levy the following RATES for tho period commencing on the Ist day of April, 1914, and ending on the 31st day of March, 1915: A GENEEAL EATE, under the provisions of Section 7S of 'The Municipal Corporations' Act, 1908,' and of 'The Eating Act, 190.8' of THEEE TENCE in the £ or. tho rateable value on the Valuation Eoll of all rateable property within the Borough of Balclutha on the basis of the unimproved value thereof, and payable in ono sum on the 15th day of August, 1914. A LIBRAEY EATE, under Section 90 of the 'Municipal Corporations' Act, 1908,' of ONE PENNY in the £ on the annual rateable value of the rateable property in the said Borough, and payable on the 15th day of August, 1914. A SANITAEY EATE, under Section 89 of 'The Municipal Corporations' Act, 1908,' of SIXPENCE in the £ on the annual rateable value of the rateable property in the said Borough, and payable on the 15th day-of August, 1914. WATER RATES (Ordinary Supply), under Section 83 of 'The Municipal Corporations' Act, 1905,' as follows on all lands and buildings within the Borough of Balclutha to. which water is supplied, (a) Where the annual value does not exceed £l2 10s a rate of 10s; (b) Where such rateable value exceeds £l2 10s, but docs not exceed £IOO a rate of seven pounds per centum (7 per cent.) of such value; (c) Where such rateable value exceeds £IOO a rate of" six pounds per centum (0 per cent) upon the second £IOO of such value; live pounds per centum (5 per cent.) upon the third hundred pounds of such value; and four pounds per centum (4 per cent.) on sc much of such value as exceeds £3OO.

One-naif of the above water rates on all lands and buildings to which water . can bo but is not supplied'• situate within one hun* dred yards of any part of the waterworks and on all buildings used as stores, warehouses, or for any purposes other than dwellings. Such water rates to be payable in two half-yearly instal--1914, and on the 15th day of February, 1915. A BATE, under Section 41 of 'The Hospital and Charitable Institutions Act, 1909,' of 3-16 PENCE in the £ on the Capital Value on the Valuation Koll of all rateable property in the Borough of Balelutha, such rate being required to meet the contribution payable by the Borough of Balclutha to the Otago Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, and to be payable on the 15th day of August, 1914. AND NOTICE is further hereby given that the Rate Book is now open for inspection at the Council Chambers aforesaid during Office Hours. Dated at Balclutha this 9th day of July, 1914. F. J.
