A DOG THAT SPELLS. AH cue wund uaa heard -A "Aw thinking horses 01 EJi>«rue.U wm.ii work out bafliuig ma meningeal problems quicker than human being*—or are alleged to do so. bui quite as astonishing a tak)comes rrum Germany of a certain dog at Mannheim, it ;s told by Professor J. A. Thomson, an authority who is quite above any susp.cion of Munchaiisemsm, in 'Knowledge.' According to his story this uog has learned to spell and recognise drawings of common objects. It was tested recently by Professor Ziegler, a wellknown b.olog.st, who drew for :t a mouse on a sheet of paper. The dog thereupon spelt out "maus," which is German for mouse. The professor next drew a flower, and the dog spelt "bliml," which, it appears, is a dialectical form of the German word ''blume," for. flower. Strange things, however, seem to have happened when an elephant was drawn, tnough what exactly vook place is not disclosed.
