PERSONAL.

Mr Chas. Anderson, who has sold out his dairy farm at Katea, has leased the Criterion Hotel, Balelutha, and will take possession next week.

Mr A. Douglas, who has filled the position of manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Clinton for more than a quarter of a century, has just received notice of transfer to a similar position at Port Chalmers.

Dr Truby King, who just recently returned from a trip to the Old Country, paid a week-end visit to his farm at Tahakopa Valley on Saturday, returning to his home by the early morning train vesterdav.

Mr A. D. Crawford, who lias taken over Mr C. Anderson's Fairfield farm at Katea, was last week presented by his late fellow-employees in the engineering department of the Mosgiel woollen mills with a hall weather glass and thermometer.

One of the visitors at the early settlers' picnic on Friday was Mr T. Blatch, who arrived in New Zealand in the John Wickliffe in 1848. He was the first policeman in Balelutha, and had some stirring times in the early days. He took a prominent part in the capture of the perpetrator of what was said to be the first murder among white men in Clutha.

Mr G. W. Bain, who ha»-been accountant in the Balelutha branch of the Bank of Xew Zealand for several years, has been promoted to be manager of the Clinton branch. He will be succeeded by Mr Fraser, from Tnvercargill, who arrives in Balelutha to-morrow. Mr Bain has been a popular officer in the bank here, and will undoubtedly "make good" in Clinton. We wish him every success in his promotion. On Saturday evening railway men to the number of about 30 gathered at the Balelutha Railway Hotel to bid farewell to Mr T. Moroney, who has been surfacing on the Kakapuaka-Toiro section for over 30 years, and who now retires on superannuation. Guard Brown was in the chair, and presented Mr Moroney with a handsome gold pendant inscribed: "To Mr T. Moroney from fel-low-workers on his retiring on superannuation; X.Z.R., Balelutha, 24/2/14." Several others also spoke, wishing Mr Moloney long life and happiness. The recipient suitably replied. Mr Moroney will now take up his residence in Dunedin.
