MASKED ROBBER IN TRAIN.

While a Southern Pacific Railway train was nearing Kansas City lately a masked maji awakened Mr J. E. Short, a wealthy mineowner, in the sleeping-car and demanded money. Mr Short handed over £2OO, but when the robber dropped the curtain of the berth Mr Short opened fir© through it at the man, who returned shot for shot, both emptying their revolvers through the curtain. Mr Short was afterwards taken to the hospital with three bullets in his body, but the doctors believe that none of the wounds will prove fatal.
