VALEDICTORY.
On every hand one hears of changes, and soon there will be no familiar faces to be seen among us (writes our Owaka correspondent). One settler who has passed all his life among us has disposed of his farm and left the district. I refer to Mr R. Mclntyre, who has sold out to a Mr Craigie, and has left with his family to reside, for the present, in Timaru. Mr Melntyro was highly respected by all friends and neighbours, who are sincerely sorry to lose him. A member and treasurer of the Oddfellows' Lodge ever since its commencement, Mr Mclntyre was the recipient of a handsome fountain pen prior to his departure. Mr Geddes, of the Railway Hotel, who has also been many years among us, has sold the hotel ami grounds, and intends removing with his wife to another part of the district. Mr J. Henderson, of Quakerfleld Farm, is selling his place in different lots, and talks of leaving Owaka sometime not far distant. Mr James Wyber has, I believe, sold his butchery business to Mr Aherne, of Kahuika, and the latest rumour says that Mr Rix, a well-known resident near Hunt's Road, contemplates a change. "Verily, this is a world of changes."
