ROAD IN BLOCK 14.
{ At Caberfeidli Messrs Ndiimann and j Roberts, settlers on Block 14, Rlmu, ap'proaehed the Ministor in regard to ' Aurora Creek road, which gave fen 1 outlet from their sections. Mr Naumanu pointed out that the expenditure by the county council had been commenced from the bottom-end of the road, where there were only two settlers, whereas it | should have been started from the rail- , way end, where there were six. The '■ road was already logged up. He did hot . deny that the. settlers at the lower end 1 were equally needing the road, but there J were more settlers at this end. It was i two and a-half miles to Caberf eidh I station, and an expenditure of £6OO i would complete the road the whole way. I Mr Fraser said the vote had been given into the hands of the local authority to expend, and the loeal authority was entitled to expend the vote on that portion of the road it considered most important. The only thing the Departi ment could do in the case of a wrongful expenditure was to withdraw the vote from the hands of the local authority altogether, and there had to be very good grounds for taking that course. Probably the settlers at the lower end were in just as much need of the road.
Mr Naumdun agreed. They were all equally in need of an outlet, and ho asked that they should get a vote of £6OO to complete the work. The Minister asked Mr Malcolm to bring the matter before him when the next Estimates were being considered, when he would do what he could for them.
Mr"Naumann thanked the Minister for his promise.
