THE WOOL MARKET.
——-+ INVERCARGILL SALES. PRICES SATISFACTORY. At tlio I]ivoreai'giil wool sales on Friday 11,155 bales were catalogued, and what was not disposed of at the auction was sold later on. There was a record attendance, and this fact may to a great l extent be attributed to the "keen speculation that has been indulged in for some time past by growers as to whether the high prices which had ruled in northern centres would be obtained at Invercargill. Prices, compared with those ruling in northern centres at recent sales, were on the whole well maintained; but, as has happened in the north, the drop noticeable in some lines since the December sales was consistently in evidence on Friday. In regard to top prices, the percentage was lower than has been the case up north, but it has to be borne in mind that the wet season has had a bad effect- on the wool, which Imyers, to a man, stated was not well nourished. There was an absence of American competition, and bidding seemed somewhat slack at the commencement, but interest and briskness increased as the sale proceeded. I The average prices ruling were:— Super to good—Merino, i lj'd to I hi; hall brbed, l.lijd to 12d; fine crossbred, '-• 1 1 1 to 1!' M; strong crossbred, 11 Id to .10(1.
