SOCIAL AND PRESENTATION.
Over 30 members of the Balclutha Bowling Club attended a smoke concert given in the Pavilion on, Tuesday night by the Club to Mr A. E. Bragg on the eve of his departure for Hakataramea. For a number of years Mr Bragg has been a prominent member, and.has held the offices of president, secretary, and the club's delegate to the South Otago Centre, and was at all times a keen and good player. The President (Mr R. Dunn) occupied the chair, and in the course of his remarks spoke of the many services which Mr Bragg had rendered to the club, the members of which were not only grateful to him, but also to Mrs Bragg, who had always been interested in the bowlers, and whenever there'was a match with a visiting team on the local green Mrs Bragg was amongst the ladies to grace it, and materially add to the enjoyment by providing a full share of the good things for afternoon tea. On behalf of the club Mr Dunn asked Mr Bragg to accept for himself and wife'a cut-glass silver-mounted salad bowl, with silver spoon and fork, as well as a watch (inscribed) to be worn by Mr Bragg in remembrance of the Balclutha Club. A number of gentlemen spoke, all referring to Mr Bragg's popularity as a "sport," and more particularly in bowling circles, and the esteem in which he was held as a citizen. The recipient, in a suitable reply, expressed thanks for the handsome gifts, which his wife and himself would cherish, and for the remarks made about himself. It was with regret that he left such good friends as he had the fortune to find iu Balclutha, and he would never forget them.
