KAITANGATA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The annual meeting of the tennis ckib was held on Tuesday evening, 20 members being present. Mr Soilness in the chair. The balance sheet showed receipts £65 11/6 (including £sl 16/ j from combined bazaar) : expenditure i £6 7/i) : credit balance £(55 11/6 which will be chiefly expended in pavilion and laying out new tennis court. Regret was expressed at losing services of the late esteemed president, Mr <). P Malcolm. The following officers were elected :—President, Mr P. Soun- j ess ; vice-presidents, Messrs W. Carson and A. Bisset ; secretary, Mr J. T. Ramsay ; treasurer, Mr A. P. llitchon; auditor, Mr E. P. Lavery ; committee, Messrs llitchon, Hogg. Paterson and Hunter : ladies' committee, Misses McDougall, Cornish, J. Cornish, who has held the posi- [ iion of stationmaster at Kaitangata for 28 years, was held in the large goods shed at the railway station by the stall on Friday evening last. The shed was comfortably and artistically arranged as a dining room. Mr W. Lane (Mr ('Ornish's successor) presided, and on behalf of the staff presented Mr Cornish with a handsomely mounted walking stick. A programme of songs, speeches, recitations, interspersed at frequent intervals with refreshments, was indulged in, and a very i pleasant evening spent. All joined in wishing Mr Cornish every prosperity in his new sphere of work as a farmer. A citizens' rjlain and fancy dress ball was held in Wilson's Hall on Friday evening. There was a fair attendance both in plain and fancy costumes, although the success was marred somewhat by the non-arrival of a number of costumes intended to be worn at the function. Wellman's Orchestra from Mataura, consisting of violin, piano, and flageolet, supplied excellent music, and Mr T. S. Reeves catered. Miss Lilly Blackburn as "Union Jack," won first prize for lady's fancy costume, and Mr •>. McAulcy' as "10th Century Courtier," for best men's costume.
