PIERCED BY RED-HOT IRON.
A very painful and serious accident happened to a young man, Michael Sullivan, 18 years of age, employed by Mr Normoyle, blacksmith and wheelwright, at Young (New South Wales). Sullivan was engaged working at the forge, and while turning round to get a hammer his arm came into contact with the end of a red-hot round rod of iron which was being drawn through a machine. The point of the iron entered the uppermost portion of the right forearm, pushing through the fleshy portion near the elbow arid iriiflictiiig a frightful bturri, four veins were also severed, and the blood flowed profusely from the wound.
