CLINTON TOWN BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Clinton Town Board was held in the Board's office on Monday evening. Presenters. W. Nelson (in the chair), P. McRorie, H. Brown, J. Abcrnethy, M. Morton, D. A. McLachlan. Finance, The Clerk reported that the Valuation Department had advised re a subsidy on rates of £32 i)/9, but this amount had not yet been paid into the Bank. He explained it would be well to pass a resolution empowering the Council to borrow On overdraft up to a certain amount, for immediate expenses, under such circumstances.— Last, month they had to overdraw £lo.—On the motion of Cr. Mcßorie, seconded by Cr. Abcrnethy, a resolution was adopted th.at the Council borrow from its bank an amount not exceeding £2O, on overdraft. The following accounts were passed for payment, on the motion of Cr. Me-', Lachlan, seconded ' |by Cr. Mcßorie :—> 1). Barclay (lighting) £5 12/6, Melntish 11/11, Milburn Lime and Cement Co. (pipes) £6 19/5, Black and Mo Lew £2 3/, W. Styles 8/-, clerk's salary £3 t>/8, stamps, etc., 1/11, Roberts £2 6/, and Charlton 14/. An estimate of expenditure for the ensuing year totalling £21(5, was adopted. Cr. P. McUorie gave notice of motion, "That a general rate of 1/ in the £ on all rateable property as appearing in the valuation roll of the Clinton Town District bo levied, the said rate to be for the year ending March 31st, 1912', and to be payable in one instalment on the 31st day of October, 1911—Section 35, Town Board Act, 1908." Correspondence. Ajbelatcd memorandum was received from Hugh Pollen, Under-Secretary to the Minister of Internal All'airs, re coronation subsidy, and enclosing form of certificate. The subsidy must be expended by 31st Dec, 1911. A maximum subsidy of £75 would be allowed.—Received. Palmer and Sons wrote re increased price of quarried metal.—Received. \Y. 11. Smith, Owaka. wrote that it was proposed to form a town board iu Owaka, and asking information on several points.—lnformation supplied. Subscription forms for the T. E. Taylor Memorial were received, and it was decided to leave the forms at the local stores. The District Engineer, N.Z. Railways, Dunedin, wrote that he had been advised that his Department had approved ol a £ for £ subsidy towards cost of constructing footpath and water channels from station master's house.—Received. General. Mr Martin said that lie had been verbally notified by Mr Kerse that the Justice Department had approved of paying half cost on improving foolpath in front of constable's house, bvitn no formal communication had been received.—The intimation was considered satisfactory.—With reference to this work it was resolved that the clerk communicate with the Clutha County Engineer and the member for Clinton Riding.,with a view to securing proper ilevels, in order that the woru be carried out. It was decided that the back creek be cleaned out, and' other small matters mentioned by Cr. Mcßorie were authorised to be attended to. A resolution was passed that lamp lighting for the season now cease. CKMKTERY TRUSTEES. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Cemetery Trustees was then held. An account from C. Meggett £L 7/, labour, was passed for payment. Tenders ranging from £l2 to £ls were received for cutUing and trimmingl trees at cemetery, but were considered too high, and none was accepted. On the motion of Mr Abcrnethy, seconded by Mr McLachlan, it was decided that a man be put on to trim and cut trees up to 6ft high, £3 10/ to be allowed. Mr Mcßorie said that men mixing material at the cemetery for headstones, could not scrape all the gravel and sand oil' the grass when cleaning up, and he suggested that a tarpaulin be procured for this purpose. Discussion followed and a mixing board was also proposed. The chairman and Mr Abcrnethy were instructed to select a site for mixing concrete and for deposit of gravel. Mr Mcßorie said he had visited the cemetery after last meeting and he found that it was not in as bad a state as reported.—'Mr McLachlan said that when he visited the cemetery sincV last meeting it was not in so bad a state as he had been led to believe.— Messrs Abcrnethy and lirowu adhered to their report given a month ago, that when they visited the cemetery they found it was not kept in good order, but said something might have been done to it since.
