THE WOODLUPINE MURDERER.

SCENE ON THE SCAFFOLD. Smithson, the violator and murderer of Miss Crumpston, at Woodlupine, was executed in Fremantle gaol the other day. After being blindfolded, Smithson Walked 80 yards towards the scaffold steadily. Then he broke down and Was assisted the last twenty yards by the priest and hangman. He gave patent physical signs of terror on the scaffold, ejeculating prayers and sobbing, "Father, forgive me. Lord Jesus, receive my spirit." The drop was 4J feet and death was instantaneous. Smithson, when offered the usual quantity of brandy, refused, and the ground that-he preferred to have his head clear.
