£IO,OOO BEQUEST TO A I'AfiE-ljl Y. Michael Dunphy, a New York h t«_>l page-boy, has inherited £IO,OOO, th'ieby proving that Fortune has not et ceased to bestow her gifts most pectedly on the deserving (says.the >.».# Yorlj correspondent of the 'Daily Mali'), Dunphy a few months ago joined lint ranks of the bell-boys at the Hotel Argonaut, San Francisco. He was a novice, and the other lads transferred to him all the distasteful tasks. At the hotel was an aged visitor, Mrs Potter, of Salem, Massachusetts, who was ill and querulous and the bane of the bellboys' existence. They accordingly i|«. puted Dunphy to wait on her. Though she was known as a "non-tipper," tho boy despite the gibes of his companions attended the old lady with uniform cheerfulness and devotion. When Mrs Potter left tho hotel in June without lippping him the gibes were redoubled, but they ceased a month later when the good page-boy was tlic recipient of a cheque for £2O from the aged invalid. Two weeks ago the manager of the hotel received a letter from Messrs Brown and Carlisle, lawyers, of'Bosion, informing him that Mrs Potter had died, leaving a bequest of £SOO to Dun. phy. The manager handed the sum to the page-boy, who immediately purchased a piece of land and arranged foj house to be built for his parents. Then with the remainder he took his old father and mother on a pleasure trip to Denver. The manager reiwted to the law vert how tho money had been expended. The lawyers replied stating that a provision had been made in A!.rs Potter's will that if the boy invested the £."()0 wi:elv he should be given £i>."oo more. The lawyers announced to Dunphy that lie had passed the tesl_ triumphantly, and the page-boy came into possession of a fortune.
