Through it all, and guiding him like a lodestar, is his true and holy love for Mona, a lady far above him in rank and station. The struggles of the collier lad. his firm belief in doing only what is right, his fidelity to his friends, and his heroism in the hour of danger, wins him the love of Mona and' ultimately clears up the mystery surrounding his birth.

The story is brimful of characters, and the scenes change rapidly. There are many dramatic situations and some of the incidents are of a thrilling nature.

PRINCIPAL CHARACTERS. Robin Bates : A foundling—the collier lad, struggles to win a position in the world and falls in love with Mona.

Mona Pearson : The Rector's daughter, a true-hearted girl, falls in love with| Robin and stands by him.

Mr Turner : A rich colliery owner—hard and selfish. Horace Turnr>r : His grandson, vain and thoughtless, unpopular with the miners.

Sam Bates : A splendid specimen of an honest, brave-hearted miner. Mrs Bates : His wife, a good, motherly woman, who loves Robi.il as if he were her own child.

Bessie : Ihcir daughter, who wants to be a lady and becomes entangled with Horace Turner.

Mercy Eastman : A weak, down-trod-den woman who found Robin on the moor.

Jake Eastman : The husband of Mercy a debauched, druuken man who carries the crime of murder on his soul.
