ABOUT THE TIP-TILTED NOSE.
In feminine beauty it is much easier to point out some blemish than to explain what makes the divine whole, remarks ".Rosaline'' in 'Black . and White.' After closer observation I have arrived at the conclusion that no woman can be really pretty if the outer line of her nose, from the forehead to tho extreme tip, be the longest part of it. The straight nose with the tip even with the nostrils is admissible, though not so fascinating as the "tiptilt," but the tip that too plainly deserves its name, and suggests a bird's beak, is a fatal flaw. Its possessor may bo nice-looking, but beautiful, in my opinion, she cannot be. .Think of all the most charming faces you know, and in nine cases out of ten they have tip-tilted noses; so important is this under-rated, unsung charm. At one time the long nose must have been in favor in society, for all the Royal portraits at Hampton Court show it in its worst form, a result surely due to fashion's demands on the artist, for all the princesses of that particular era oonld not have been born with such a similarity of feature. One pardons the. unlawful admiration of the 17th-.and' 18th century kings for other women, as their own wives had never a "tiptilV among them,,
