BALCLUTHA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Usual monthly meeting of the •above council was held on Wednesday evening. Present-His Worship the Mayor (Mr Jno. Dunne), councillors W. Boyd, E. J. Boyd, J as. Clark, A. McE.wan, J. Ramago, Bedding, G. W. Wood, Jas. Wilkins, Sinclair Wright. I Sympathy.

Before proceeding with business the council passed a unanimous vote of sympathy .with Councillors W>. Boyd, aud Sinclair Wright in their recent be-i rcavement. Councillors llamage and the Mayor speaking to the motion. /.Correspondence.

Secretary, Dunedin Hospitul Saturday 'Association wrote asking wnatj arrangements had been made for p4jrel Saturday (Saturday, Dec. 4) in this district, also offering "to provido badges, . collecting lists and! boxes should they be required.—lt was 1 decided that the council take no action in the matter.

Secretary Charitable Aid and Hospital Board notified that the annual election of members for these Boards' would take place at the county o'lliccs, Balcluiha, at 1.15 on Wednesday, 24th November. Ba-lelutha Borough was entitled to 1 vote and Clutha County to 4 votes.—The Mayor appointed. _ Secretary Otago Benevolent Institution asked the council to appoint a delegate to exercise council's vote in election of trustees at Dunedin on Cth December.—Left to Mayor's discretion. Secretary Dunedin Hospital Trustees asked the council to appoint a delegate to exercise council's vote at the annual meeting of representatives in Dunedin, on Monday, 6th December.— Left in Mayor's nands. Town Clerk Chris tchurch asked the council to pass, a resolution in similar terms to that oi his council favouring universal military training.—Motion in favour already passed. Mr Stewart, proprietor of the Keystone borer, notified the council his intention of paying Balclutha a visit when his present engagements were completed, in order to talk things over with councillors in the matter of sinking wells.—Received. Mr Geo.»Moffat, Te Houka, drew attention to the way clay was acing carted off street opposite sec. 63, 54„ and 25, Block XXXI, Rosebank, lot to Mr T. Sinclair. The fence was being undermined at places, thus spoiling the section for building purposes. —Mayor said he had instructed Inspec-; tor to prosecute anyone taking material off streets without permission.— Mayor's action approved. Redpath Gillespie and John Crichtoni each applied for 12 months grazing license free owing to having lost a cow oath through poisoning.—Application declined. Accounts.

Anyone using the baths would hereafter ■ do so on their own responsibility, r Action approved. Cr Wilkins reported that the borough workmen were making good progress with the kerbiiig and channelling of Clyde street; he was pleased to say , there would bo no.filling up required after the work was finished,- but that there would' be some material to clear away, which he suggested should be deposited on Stewart St. There was a lamp-post required to replace a new one on main street near Caldervan street, and he thought they should get an iron ong before the kerbing was laid.—lt was decided to procure iron lamp-posts for any required to be renewed where the kerbing was being laid.—lt was further decided to .idopt Mr Wilkins' suggestion and deposit surplus material off Clyde St, on ritewart St. Mr Wright drew attention to the gorse growing on road-lines in ."'orth Balclutha.—Tne lViayor said this was a, matter for the Inspector of NoxiousWeeds. _ Cr. Cr Wood said he had been approach-• ed by residents in North Balclutha regarding the numbers of stray cattle on.: the roads there.—Ranger to be instructed to summons owners, Cr. McEwan said as a member of: the works committee he objected tothe new idea that the daymen if they wanted a pound of nails, or a bit oL batten for their work having to get a requisition signed by the town clerk.
