At a meeting held in Balclutha, to discuss the benefits likely to accrue from the establishment of a Building Society in the district, it was decided to establish the above Society. The aim is to enable members to build or buy houses of their own. Instead of paying rent, members would pay small weekly instalments, often less than the rent they now pay, which would enable them in 12i years to become the absolute owners of their homes. A number of these Societies have been at work in Dunedin, to the very great advantage of the members'. Many men to-day are in houses of their own, who, but for these Societies, would still be paying rent. An entry fee of 1/, and a weekdy payment of 1/ per share enables anyone to become u member. All the funds are applied to members' benefit. ' Shares and all information may be obtained from
