SUICIDE COMPACT.
Some extraordinary letters wore left by Mrs Eleanor Merron Cowper, the actress and playwright, who shot herself in one of the most fashionable hotels in New York. After being taken to the hospital the actress resolutely declined nourishment and died. Her lawyer now makes public a letter which discloses the fact that she committed -.uicide in agreement with Mr James H. Wallack, an actor, who shot himself last May after losing his health and fortune. Mrs Cowper postponed ,the fulfilment of her agreement repeatedly in order not to inconvenience her lawyer, to whom she finally wrote:— "I intend to go into a big sleep on Thursday night. I have engaged my box and find I can dress myself. I only need to be lifted in. Let there be no embalming for me. I always did hate to be handled. The new process cf electric cremation takes only 40 minutes. I prefer to be taken out of my box for that, for I don't see any use for ■i lot of ironmongery being mixed with :ny ashes. When you get the can I want you to open it and place the ashes directly in the ground. It will only need a small bit of turf to be removed."
