He also confined his operations to sheep farming for three years, and cleared £7OO the first year, £7OO the second, and lost IV'OO the third. The loss was occasioned by fat stock transactions. Another witness gave evidence that he knew of cases in the Hawera district where farmers paid £3O to £<lo per acre for their lands, and still made net profits. At the Land Board meeting on Wednesday the following local business was dealt with George Harvey, jun., wrote requesting that his lease in perpetuity over section 7, block XIV, Pomahaka Downs Estate, be declared forfeited, as he intended leaving on account of tho ill-health of his wile.— Copy of Mr Harvey's letter to be forwarded to the Minister of Lands.— Robert Simmers applied to purchase section 50, block X, Glenkenich district, at present reserved as a dairy factory site.—Referred to the ranger for report.—Manson and Co., Tikokino, wrote desiring information with regard to sawmilling areas, Tautuk,u Bush.—rLeft with the Commissioner of Crown Lands to deal with.
