Rounders.

On Saturday the Balclutha District High School Rounder Club played their second match. A team arrived here from Milton in the morning, and the game was commenced at 12. During the first spell from 12 to I o'clock, Milton made 18 rounders, Balclutha 33. Although the batting on Milton side was very good, the Balclutha girls far surpassed the visiting team in fielding, their success in this department is greatly owing to the enthusiasm of Hazel Currie (captain) and the smartness of Bella Clark (backstop), while Bessie Fruish and Maggie Maker made very good scouts, every girl in fact did her part excellently. During the innings Flossie Allen scored very well and also fielded well. At 1 o'clock all adjourned to the school gymnasium, where the girls of the local team who were not playing, with the assistance of Miss Murray, prepared lunch in a very creditable manner ; three of the school boys (Gibson Bishop, Willie Dallas, and Willie Currie) also assisted the girls in boiling water, etc. The tables were prettily decorated in red and white Club colours. The game was resumed at 2 o'clock, and was very exciting. The Milton captain (Ivy Marryatt) played very well, as did their backstop, and the team as a whole were very clever with the bat, but the result was a win of 44 to the local team (Balclutha 234 points, Milton 100). At the kind invitation of Mrs McE'lrea, the girls had the use of the orchard, in which the visiting team had afternoon tea. Thereafter the visiting girls were escorted round the town by Miss Galloway, who really had charge of the game, and who greatly interested herself in the girls of both Clubs. The Milton team left Balclutha at 5.10 p.m., no doubt disappointed that they did not win, but evidently having enjoyed the outing.
