Balclutha D.H. School.

Tha above committee met last evening. Present—Messrs T. A. .Johnston (chairman.) 1). Watt (secretary). J.Agnew, R. Campbell, J as. Clark, G. it. Reid, and Thos. McDonald.

The Rector (Mr MeElrea) reported the average attendance for November as 281, while the average for the past two months was 28-1-A. The school time-tables had been arranged to cover work between !).30 and ,130, and he asked the committee to sanction the change. Miss Blackie goes to Duncdin on Tuesday to sit for her matriculation exam.; two pupils, Phoebe Garry and F. Widdowson, are also sitting for the same examination. He enclosed the Inspectors' reports in the secondary work of the school.— The committee approved of the proposed time-table.—With reference to (he Inspectors' report, Mr Agnew moved that the secretary write to the Rector expressing the Committee's satisfaction with the results and congratulating the Rector and stall' on tire highly satisfactory nature of the report. This was seconded by Mr Campbell and carried unanimosly. The Chairman spoke in laudatory terms of the report, which was the most highly satisfactory the school had yet had in the secondary work. A large proportion of the papers worked by the pupils received the mark "excellent.'' The report, on the English classes spoke in the highest terms of the work done. It would be difficult to obtain better results.

The Secretary Education Hoard forwarded applications and testimonials for position of second assistant. There were a 1)2, a HI. and an lv'>.—After consideration, iVIr McDonald moved that Miss May Keys, 1)4, be recommended for appointment —Seconded by Mr Campbell and carried unanimously. —Miss Keys is at present relieving at St. Clair, and we understand has also been recommended for a position in the Toko. District TTiplt School. Following accounts were passed for payment—H. Hogg £1 I/O. 1). Munro 8/-, J. Hislop £1 12/2, (I. Hruoo £,2 10/-, J. Bamagc £i 8/-.
