OWAKA VALLEY.
(From our own Correspondent.) Since my last the aspect of nature has changed for the better. The roads are drying up quickly, the high winds we have had lately having a lot to do with it. They are rough yet, though an occasional hole is to be avoided. The telephone rails are lying in position as far as Owaka Valley. I hear work is to begin shortly, so we'll soon be able to "ring you up." The season is very backward, the farmers all complaining about the shortness of grass for this time of year. A lot of people have not yet got their ground ready for oat sowing. We have had a lot of sickness about this season, and, sad to say, our local doctor has been ill, but we are glad to see him about again. The dairy factory is working every day, but the supply of milk is not great yet. The anglers' Kut has been inhabited for about a week. There is a chimney in the domicile but it smokes to such a degree that it might come in handy for a iish-curing depot, I have heard of several good hauls being made, and you can see fish rising at any time. The last flood has cleared the river of a lot of snags ; thus making it easier fishing.
