When the evening- train from Owa-ka I wa.s approaching Romahapa station |on Friday the driver noticed that a ; man was apparently standing on the I line. The driver endeavoured to stop the train, hut was unable to pull up | in time, and the man was caught by J (he cow-catcher thrown dear of j the line. On returning to the scene of the accident it was found that the ' man was Horslmrgh, a resident of ! ['or! The man sustained several cuts and bruises to his head, neck, arms, ami wrist, in addition to a fractured rib, but, although numerous, the injuries are not of a serious nature, and lie is now progressing favourably. A pro re nata meeting of the Clutha Presbytery was held in the Church, lialcliitlia. on Friday last, when there, were present.-the Rev. R. S. Allan (Moderator), and Messrs Currie, Rcid, and Chisholm (ministers). The object oi t lie meeting was to consider an application from the congregation of Warepa airl Kailiiku for leave to moderat' in a call towards (tiling the vacancy. Commissions from Kaifangata and Warcjm were received on behalf of Messrs .lohn Johnston and Thomas Tait, who wens present atld !ool< their seats accordingly. Mr Currie icported that, at a congregational meeting held n t Ware))n on th«> j Ist ii> st.. a motion asking for leave, :to moderate had been carried uiianij mously. Mr .John Wright, who had been delegated at the congregational ■ meeting,to represent, it in Presbytery, also spoke of the unanimity that prevailed throughout the congregation, i 1 f their strong desire for a speedy settlement. Mr Tait corroborated ail that Mr Wright had said. On, the moii u) pf Mr Cnvrie, seconded bv Mr Reid. it \vn- agreed that the request, ol the congregation be granted, and that the Presbytery meet, for moderai'mn hi the Church, Warepa, on Monday. the Vhhid inst., at half-past 2, o'clock the Rev. Mr Currie to preach and preside. : At the close of the choir practice on Friday evening last, Mr Rcid, on be- . half of the lialclutha Presbyterian Church Choir, presented Miss Moffat, :of Te Flouka, one. of, their members, j with a handsome and useful teapot on j the occasion of her approaching marriage. In making the presentation, I Mr Rcid thanked Miss Moffat for the, , great interest she had taken in the | choir, and for the regularity with i which she had attended, ami wished ; for her and hers many happy and I prosperous days. The Hev. Mr Currie j followed in the same strain, and hoped that, though changing her estate, J Miss Moliat wasn't altogether desertI ing the choir. The teapot, he took it. i was a hint that they were all sociably | inclined, and to some people a hint | was as good as a word. In reply, | Miss Moffat thanked the choir for | their gift, and spoke of the pleasure j she had always had in attending the j practices. She would be glad to see | them all in her «ew home, for a cup !of tea. Thereafter tiios. present rej tired to the Church Hall, and with tea, cake, and crack, spent a very pleasant hour,
