The 42nd annual gathering of tho Otago Caledonian Society was held at Dunedin on Thursday and Friday, but was not favoured with the best of weather, and the gate receipts showed a falling-off of LIOO compared wiflj last year. 6. W. Johnston was the most successful of distriot competitors, securing first in the 12st and under Wrestling on the first day, while on the second day he was secoad in the Border Style (All-comers) and third in the Catch-as-catch-can. J. Milroy ran seeond in the Youths' Handicap of 350 yds. B. Penman (Kdtangata) enrried oft first honors in the Qaoititig Handicap, as did J. Miller in the Sack Race, with T. H. Miller seoond. W. Carlton and J. Moir wero third in the Sawing, the former also securing third in the Chopping, in which event Moil was unplaced. Of tho other local competitors 11. E. Miller was unplaced in the Vaulting, as also was Callum Morrison in the Bagpipe Music for youths under 20. Among those who competed at tho district sports during the Christmas holidays tho irost successful at Dunedin wa3 L, M'Kay, who woii the Hop, Step, and Leap, 120 yds Hurdles, Vaulting, and the High Jump. D. M'Donald secured first in the Sailor's Hornpipe, seoonds in Highland Fling, Seauntrous, Bagpipe Music (under 20), and a third in the Irish Jig. J. Craig, who won both cycling eyents at the Balclutha sports, had to bo content with a second in the Consolation liace.
