KAITANGATA A V. LAWRENCEThe return Shield fixture between Kaitangata a a_nd Lawrence took place at Lawrence on Friday, and resulted in a win for the home team by an innings and six runs. Kaitangata batting first could only score 20, of which Laveiy contributed 6, Duncan 5, Whitty 3, agiiinst the bowling of Clarke (7 wickets for 9 runs) and Hilton (3 for 11). Lawrence responded with 80, towards which total Hilton 27, Lockhart 15, Carswell 12, and Clarke 8 batted well; Harrison bowled best for the 'visitors, securing 8 wickets for 42 runs. In their second innings Kaitangata did a little better, scoring 54, tbe chief contributors being : Fletcher 17, Bobbins 11, and Lavery 8, against the bowlirg of Clarke (5 for 24), and Hilton (2 for 7). The fielding of the visitors was very poor indeed compared with tbeir usual exhibition, and if they intend to win the shield they must practice more. The Kai. boys are highly pleased with the manner in* which Lawrence entertained them during their visit, and one and all enjoyed the trip although they had to accept defeat.

The return fixture between Waiwera and Clinton will be played at Clinton on Saturday. The Englishmen met and defeated Tarannki by an innings and 103 runs, the scores being: Englishmen 320, Taranaki 86 and 131. The interpro. match betsveen Otago and Southland, played at'lnvercargill during the holidays, resulted in a win for Otago by one wicket and 177 runs. Now that the holidays are over it devolves upon the governing body of the S.O.C.A. to immediately prepare a pitch and otherwise put the giound in order for the visit of the Englishmen. It is now some two or three months since the match was arranged, and not a stroke has been done to prepare for it. The following table (allowing two point for a win) shows the position of the clubs competing for the South Otago Cricket Association's Shield: Southern Division.
